Guillermo León Valencia

Guillermo León Valencia Muñóz (* April 27, 1909 in Popayán, † November 4, 1971 in New York) was a Colombian lawyer and politician. He was 1962-1966 President of Colombia.

Life

Guillermo Leon Valencia was the son of writer and politician Guillermo Valencia and his wife Josefina Muñóz. He studied law and taught at the University of Cauca, where he completed his studies in 1926. He began his political career in the city council of his birthplace Popayán and later in the City Council of Bogotá. Other stations included the position of ambassador to the United Nations, and later as ambassador to Spain. His first appointment as foreign minister, he leaned from 1949, but resigned this office in 1953 briefly to. Guillermo Leon Valencia was from 1962 to 1966 member of the Colombian Conservative Party and stood in for this 1962 on the presidential elections, which he won against Alfonso López Michelsen. He was 1962-1966 President of Colombia.
