Guillermo Mendizábal

Guillermo " Wendy " Mendizábal Sánchez ( born October 8, 1954 in Mexico City) is a former Mexican football player who acted at the beginning of his career as a central defender, but was soon ordered into midfield and maintained this position until the end of his active career. Later he worked as a coach and then in management. In 2003, he became Vice President of CD Veracruz.

Mendizábal was the beginning of his career nine years running for his hometown club Cruz Azul, then moved for two years to the UAG Tecos and then spent a year in Spain to the Madrid neighborhood club Rayo Vallecano. Back in Mexico, he played five years for the Club Deportivo Guadalajara, where he trailed off his active career in 1991. Later he worked as a coach at the club Leon and the UAT Correcaminos. He was also sports director at his former club Cruz Azul and has worked as Vice President of the CD Veracruz since 2003.

Overall Mendizábal was three times champion of the Mexican Primera División: 1979 and 1980 with Cruz Azul and Guadalajara 1987. It was interesting that the final 1987 just took place between his then current club Guadalajara and his Exverein Cruz Azul. Guadalajara was able to prevail in this case quite clearly with 3:0 and 1:2.

National

Mendizábal made ​​its debut in the Mexican national team on 14 February 1978 by a stint in El Salvador, which won the Mexicans 5-1. His first goal he succeeded in his second international match on April 4, 1978 against Bulgaria, which was won in the Estadio Jalisco 3-0.
