Gummidipoondi (Tamil: கும்மிடிப்பூண்டி Kummiṭippūṇṭi [ ɡum ː ˌ iɖi p u ː ː ɳɖi ]; Gummidipundi also ) is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu with around 19,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ).

Gummidipoondi is located approximately 45 kilometers north of Chennai (Madras ) in Tiruvallur district in the hinterland of the coast of the Gulf of Bengal. The border of the neighboring Federal State of Andhra Pradesh is only eight kilometers away. The city is the capital of taluks Gummidipoondi.

Gummidipoondi is an industrial site that houses in addition to a factory for tire ( Dupont Fibres ) and a plant that produces carbon black (Hi- Tech Carbon), a number of small and medium-sized enterprises. The city benefits from its good transport links: By Gummidipoondi lead the National Highway 5, which runs as part of the Golden Quadrilateral project of Chennai parallel to the east coast to the north, and the railway line from Chennai to Nellore to that of the northern line Chennaier suburban train (Chennai Suburban railway) is operated.
