Günther Domenig

Günther Domenig ( born July 6, 1934 in Klagenfurt, † June 15, 2012 in Graz) was an Austrian architect.

Life

Domenig studied from 1953 to 1959 at the Technical University of Graz architecture. Even after graduation remained Graz its principal place of work. For one, he taught at the Technical University ( since 1980 as a university professor ), on the other hand many of its buildings were erected in Graz.

From 1963 to 1975 he worked with Eilfried Huth. After that, he was for the most part alone works, some works also emerged together with Hermann Eisenköck. In 1998, Günther Domenig, Hermann Eisenköck and Herfried Peyker the Architektur Consult ZT GmbH, which he left in 2006. Since 2003, Günther Domenig worked in the architect Domenig & Wallner ZT GmbH mainly with Gerhard Wallner.

Domenig style has anticipated various architectural movements since the 1960s as structuralism, deconstruction and brutalism and had a decisive influence in part. His main work is attributed to the deconstruction and is located between expressionism and post-structuralism. Some works claim to be works of art. These include, above all, his personal magnum opus, the stone house in Faaker lake.

An exhibition of the graphic work of the architect 's graphical work in the MAK instead - In March 2007, took place in the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna under the title Günther Domenig.
