Gunther Karsten

Gunther Karsten ( born September 23, 1961) is a German athlete memory (memory world champion 2007) and author.

Life

Karsten is married to Michaela Buchvaldová - Karsten, who is also successful memory athlete. He runs a full-time patent translation agency as a chemist and biotechnologist. But Karsten also conducts seminars for mental, learning and memory training. 1998-2004 he was seven times in a row German champion memory sports and defeated in 2005 the only 19 -year-old Clemens Mayer from Brann castle near Rosenheim, the memory also became world champion in the same year.

2007 Karsten was again German champion and achieved the hitherto best result ever achieved in a memory - decathlon and thus also won first place in the world rankings. Shortly thereafter, he was at the World Championships from August 31 to September 2 in Bahrain for the first time world memory champion.

It also supports the promotion of young talent, his most famous student is the multiple Junior World Champion and recent high school graduate Germany 2003 Christiane Stenger. Karsten was able to set up world records in numerous individual disciplines. So he held until 2009, for example, in 1 h number discipline, in which you start must memorize a random sequence of decimal digits in 60 minutes, the world record with 1949 digits (now the record stands at 2080 digits). 2001, 2005 and 2006, he was vice-champion, 2005 and 2006 also team world champion with the German team. Karsten had a number of television appearances, such as in the brains show with Günther Jauch, in which he demonstrated on the basis of Verona box bush, how to improve his memory skills with the help of mnemonics enormous. Karsten published in 2003 (in collaboration with the FOCUS editor Martin Kunz ) which translated into several languages ​​successful book memory.

In October 2009, Gunther Karsten participated in the Austrian film, Unforgettable. He plays himself as memory artists and participants of the World Memory Championships in London. The film was released in April 2010.

He is since 1985 a member of the Gifted club cafeteria. Together with other memory athletes he founded in 2002 the club MemoryXL eV, whose first president from 2002 to 2006.
