Günther von Wüllersleben

Gunther von Wüllersleben (* unknown; † 3 or May 4, 1252 ) was from 1249 to 1252 the eighth Grand Master of the Teutonic Order.

Wüllersleben came from a ministerial family of Hersfeld Monastery, which came from Wüllersleben in ( Thuringia) Ilm-Kreis. His Date of entry into the Order is not known, but he lived until 1215 as a simple Teutonic Knights in Acre. It is possible that with him to the same religious Marshal of Palestine, who meets us there from 1228 to 1230.

Sure it is 1234 again witnessed as a friar in Thuringia, from where he could then become Landkomtur in Puglia, if it is identical with the eponymous officials from 1240 to 1244. Anyway, we find him in the company of the Grand Master in 1246 in Prussia ( Thorn and Elbing ).

Günther von Wüllersleben was in 1249 or 1250 in Acre elected Grand Master. Ludwig von Queden, the defeated opposition candidate cited by Dietrich von Grüningen pro- papal party, was sent as a country master to Prussia.

Over the term of office of Günther Wüllersleben nothing is known, he probably resided until his death in Acre. During his tenure, the sixth crusade was held at which a larger contingent German knight had participated. In the context Wüllersleben however, is not known. He died on 3 or 4 Mai 1252.
