Güroymak

Güroymak ( Turkish ) or Norsin (of Armenian Նորշեն Norshen " New Village ", formerly also Çukur ) is the name of a district town and a district in the Turkish province of Bitlis. Güroymak is located in the west of the province on the border with Muş. The city has 20,607 inhabitants and the county 44 416 (as of 2010 ).

Dynasties and empires that dominated Güroymak were the Hittite, Urartu, Persians, Macedonians, Seleucids, Rome, Marwaniden that Ahlatschahs that Şerefhans, Ottomans, Russians and Turks. Güroymak is by law since 1988 a district.

As part of the " Kurdish initiative " of the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the city is since August 2009 again referred to by officials with their Kurdish- Armenian name Norsin.
