Gustavo Baz Prada

Gustavo Baz Prada ( born January 31, 1894 in Tlalnepantla, † October 12, 1987 in Mexico City) was a Mexican surgeon and obstetrician, politicians, and Rector of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ( UNAM). He was, among others, twice governor of the State of Mexico, as well as Senator and Secretario de Asistencia y Salubridad ( Minister of Health ).

Life

Baz started school in 1900 in the Liceo Fournier in Mexico City. After his father's death the family went to Guadalupe in Zacatecas State, where he finished primary school. In 1908 he moved to the " Escuela Normal de Guadalajara ', 1912 then at the Instituto Científico y Literario de Toluca. As a fellow of the Colegio Médico Militar he began medical training as Sargento. From 1914 he actively participated in the Mexican Revolution. After the implementation of the Plan of Ayala, he was on December 15, 1914 for the first time Governor of the State of Mexico and promoted to brigadier general. After the victory of the constitutional forces, who were in the region under the command of General Pablo González Garza, he laid the governor's post on October 14, 1915 down, abandoned in 1916 on his rank brigadier general and continued his medical training. In 1920 he received from the Escuela de Medicina admission as a surgeon and obstetrician. On October 11, 1935, he became director of the Escuela Nacional de Medicina and the Escuela Médico Militar. In the same year he was also president of the Academia Nacional de Medicina. On June 21, 1938 he was rector of the UNAM. On 1 December 1940 he was appointed by President Manuel Ávila Camacho to Secretario de Asistencia y Salubridad and handed two days later the rector items at UNAM to his successor. During his tenure, which ended on December 30, 1946, he received, among other things, an Honorary Doctorate from the UNAM. As a candidate of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI ), he was re-elected on 16 September 1957 to 1963, Governor of the State of México. From 1976 to 1982 he was a Senator of the Republic of Mexico and in 1978 was awarded the Medalla del Senado de la Belisario Domínguez República.
