Guy Bovet

Guy Bovet ( May 22nd, 1942 in Thun, hometown entitled in Neuchâtel and Fleurier ) is a Swiss organist and composer.

Life

Guy Bovet was organ student of Marie Dufour in Lausanne, Pierre Segond in Geneva and Marie -Claire Alain in Paris. From 1979 to 1999 he taught Spanish organ music at the University of Salamanca. Since 1989 he is professor at the Musikhochschule Basel. In addition, taught at numerous other institutions and universities, including in Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna, Helsinki, Oslo, Warsaw, Moscow and London, at the University of Western Ontario, the University of Oregon, Drake University, Southern Methodist University and the University of Cincinnati. He also teaches in courses and organ academies throughout Europe, Japan and Mexico.

Bovet is committed to the preservation of historic organs; among other things he was responsible for the restoration of the organ in the Alain family, had written his compositions for Jehan Alain. He acts as an expert for projects in Europe, Mexico and the Far East.

From 1989 to 2009 he was organist of the Collegiate Church in Neuchatel, whose new organ he designed in 1996. He spends about sixty concerts, his repertoire includes music of the Middle Ages, early Spanish and French music as well as works by Johannes Brahms, Franz Liszt, César Franck, Jehan Alain and Johann Sebastian Bach. He played over fifty records and CDs predominantly on historical organs. He also directs the Société des Concerts Spirituels de Genève and the Société des concerts de la Collegiate Neuchatel and is the artistic director of the Organ Festival in Lahti.

Bovet wrote next to organ music symphonic works, concertos, operas, chamber music, and numerous film scores. He also emerged as a publisher of the works of Francisco Correa de Arauxo, José Lidón and composer of the Abbey of Einsiedeln.
