Guy I of Clermont

Guy I de Clermont (also: Guiot, * 1286, † July 11, 1302 in Groeningekouter in Kortrijk ) was Lord of Breteuil and Offemont since 1296 and Marshal of France.

He was the youngest son of Simon II de Clermont and Adele of Montfort.

He married his first wife, Marguerite, which is attested in 1268, and probably was a daughter of Guillaume de Mello, M. de Saint -Bris. His second wife, he married Marguerite de Thourotte, Lady of Offemont and Thourotte en partie, daughter of Ansould II (House Thorotte ) and Jeanne. From the second marriage he had five children, including

  • Jean I de Nesle († May 25, 1352 ), Lord of Offemont, Mello and Thourotte en partie; ∞ Marguerite, Lady of Mello
  • Mahaut, ∞ Bertrand VI. de Moreuil ( † after May 22, 1350 ), Lord of Moreuil, 1344 Marshal of France

1296 he was appointed Marshal of France, his eldest brother Raoul II de Clermont was at this time already Constable of France. Like his brother, he participated on the French in 1302 at the Battle of the Spurs and was killed during the battle.
