Guy Maunsell

Guy Anson Maunsell ( born September 1, 1884 in India, † June 20, 1961 in Ireland) was the British civil engineer who designed the Maunsell Forts in World War II, which were set up to defend the east coast of England in the mouths of the rivers Thames and Mersey.

In 1955 he founded the company in London G Maunsell & Partners. The company quickly expanded to Australia, Hong Kong and the Middle East and is a pioneer in the use of prestressed concrete in the construction of large bridges. The 1959 finished Narrows Bridge in Perth, the time of its opening largest prefabricated prestressed concrete bridge in the world, was built to a design by G Maunsell & Partners. The Gladesville Bridge in Sydney, built between 1959-1964, is still one of the longest concrete arch bridges in the world today. Since 2000 the company is part of the AECOM group.
