Hailemariam Desalegn

Hailemariam Desalegn ( born July 19, 1965 at Woreda Boloso Sore, Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region) is an Ethiopian politician and, since September 15, 2012 Prime Minister of his country.

Desalegn is one of the Wolaytta, an ethnic group from the south of Ethiopia. He is not an orthodox Christian, like most Ethiopian Christians, but Protestant. He studied at the University of Tampere engineer was appointed on 1 September 2010 Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and was elected Prime Minister by the Ethiopian Parliament on 15 September 2012.

On January 27, 2013, the General Assembly of the African Union elected him chairman of the AU. In January 2014, the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz took over this office.
