Háj, Turčianske Teplice District

Haj ( German fre, Hungarian Turócliget - to 1907 Haj ) is a municipality in the north - central Slovakia with 464 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011). It is located in Okres Turčianské Teplice, a part of the Region Žilinský.

Geography

The municipality is located in the southern part of the creek Turzbeckens Smolický creek and below the Great Fatra. The center is located at an altitude of 508 m nm and is two kilometers from Turčianské Teplice, and 28 kilometers away from Martin.

The territory of Haj borders Raksa the north and east, in the southeast and Čremošné Turčianské Teplice in the south and west (neighborhoods Dolna Štubňa, Turčianské Teplice and Diviaky ).

History

In the municipality there were in the Hallstatt period a cremation grave field, followed by a settlement of Púchov Culture and Slavic settlement from the 11th - 12th Century. The town itself was first mentioned in 1264 as a shark in writing and derives its name from the Slavic / Slovak term for a grove from. 1340 received the Mocsko comes from the Hungarian king the village, which was eventually to 1493 the Hájsky family and was the seat of a small Herrschaftsguts. After the death of the family came in 1535 Haj after years of quarreling in the possession of the city Kremnitz. In 1496 there were ponds around the village, later a brewery. 1828 were counted 92 houses and 637 inhabitants, who were employed in agriculture and as carters, masons and carpenters.

Until 1918, belonged to the lying in the county Turz place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today.

According to the 2011 census lived in Haj 464 inhabitants, of whom 449 Slovaks and each one German and Czech; a resident had a different ethnic group. 12 inhabitants did not respond. 260 inhabitants known to the Protestant Church AB, 111 inhabitants to the Roman Catholic Church, seven inhabitants to the Greek Catholic Church and a resident of the Reformed Church; a resident was other denomination. 44 residents were non-denominational and 40 inhabitants, the denomination has not been determined.

  • Roman Catholic Cosmas and Damian Church from 1454, originally rebuilt in Gothic style in the 17th and 18th centuries
  • Former vicarage in the Baroque style from 1764, largely rebuilt in the 20th century and now houses the local kindergarten
