Hakan Ünsal ( born May 14, 1973 in Sinop ) is a former Turkish football player.

Career

Club career

Ünsals career began at Karabükspor. For the 1993/1994 season he moved to Galatasaray, where he had his greatest successes later. Ünsal won with Galatasaray including the UEFA Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and was four times Turkish champions.

In the winter of 2002 Ünsal moved to Blackburn Rovers. After only half a year, he returned to Galatasaray. 2004/ 05 Ünsal moved one last time to the club and played in Çaykur Rizespor. After a year in Rize, he ended his career.

National

Ünsal played 33 games for the Turkish national team. He took with Turkey in the Euro 2000 and 2002 FIFA World Cup and was part of 2002 World Cup bronze medalist. Ünsal became famous during the game against Brazil: Rivaldo had delayed the game at a score of 1:2 during a corner, Ünsal was annoyed and fired the ball against the legs of Rivaldo. This fell and held his hands before his face. The referee pointed Ünsal ahead of the field.
