Hämerten is a district of the city Tangermünde in the district of Stendal, in Saxony- Anhalt, Germany.

Geography

The village Hämerten lies on the left bank of the Elbe River, a few kilometers from the towns of Stendal and Tangermünde.

History

In 1160 appeared the place in a deed of Helmstedter St. Liudger monastery on as Hamerten. Maybe it is a Dutch start-ups under Albrecht the Bear - a place called Hamerten existed at that time between the Waal and the Meuse. The name means " slope ".

Until 1238 the town belonged to the Counts of Osterburg, from 1375 to 1587 was the Ritterhof in Hämerten owned by the family of beech wood, then fell to the Council of the City of Stendal, like two founded later Ritter farms including those of Buchholz in 1657. Since 1448 also owned by Itzenplitz on Jerchel half of the village. This family and the Council of Stendal has remained the right of patronage.

Was of great importance and is the same dike at Hämerten, it protects the effects of flooding the town of Stendal and the entire lamp lowlands. 1828 and 1903 were successful excavations at the La Tene burial ground on the Herms mountains north of Hämerten, near the Ortsausganges between the Stork Weg and the slope of the Elbe instead.

Until December 31, 2009 Hämerten was an independent municipality and a member of the now defunct administrative community Tangermünde.

Due to a change in the contract area, the municipal council of the municipality Hämerten decided on 9 June 2009 that the church Hämerten is incorporated into the city Tangermünde. This agreement was approved by the county as a lower municipal supervisory authority and entered into force on 1 January 2010.

After incorporation of the previously autonomous municipality Hämerten was Hämerten district of the city Tangermünde. Traffic

In Hämerten the high-speed line Hannover- Berlin and the Lehrter to cross the Elbe bridge Hämerten the river - it is the only railway bridge over the Elbe in the over 100 -kilometer section between Magdeburg and Wittenberg.
