Hamilton Bohannon

Hamilton Frederick Bohannon ( born March 7, 1942 in Newnan, Georgia, United States) is an American drummer, bandleader, and music producer of the styles of soul, R & B and disco. He was considered one of the leading figures of the disco music of the 1970s.

Life

After completing his studies at the University of Clark Atlanta he played in various local bands. Soon he was hired as a drummer by Stevie Wonder for his live band. He moved to Detroit in 1965 and worked there for the ( Tamla ) Motown studios as an arranger and producer. After Motown Detroit left in 1972, he was left to form his own band.

After conclusion of the contract with Dakar / Brunswick Records in early 1973 he released the album Stop And Go. This was followed by five more albums with this record label within the next two years. The music was characterized by heavy, pounding bass accents and aggressive rhythms. Although various titles to club successes were, the success continued in the music charts but within limits. In 1974 in Germany the single Keep On Dancing.

The breakthrough came in 1975 with the title Disco Stomp, which in the German Top Ten stayed for seven weeks and it made it to number three. Although belonging to a different genre, reminiscent of the constant, pounding rhythm of the nearly six -minute-long piece to the other at that time were only krautrock music motor sound. This was soon followed also more successful single, Foot Stompin ' Music.

1976 Bohannon signed to Mercury Records and had two years later, his biggest international hit with " Let's Start The Dance". During the 1980s more shots with the new vocalists Liz Lands and Altrinna Grayson were produced, which were hardly successful, however.

In Germany Disco Stomp should continue to be most well known as it became the theme music of the Disco ZDF program. The music of Bohannon was later taken up by other musicians, such as The Stomp! ATB (DJ).
