The Hamilton Airport ( Hamilton International Airport, IATA code: HLZ; ICAO code: NZHN ) is located about 13 km south of Hamilton in the Waikato region, New Zealand.

The airport is open 7 days a week around the clock and are suitable for aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 767.

History

During the Second World War, Hamilton was used as a base for fighter aircraft. After the war, in the early 1950s, the first civilian, commercial flights took place.

1988, the start and runway was expanded to meet the demand for international flights to and from Australia fair. In 1989 the airport by the New Zealand government to a newly established operating company - " Waikato Regional Airport Limited" - sold, which is half owned by the City Council of Hamilton and to a lesser extent in the possession of the various departmental governments of the Waikato region.
