The Palmerston North Airport ( Palmerston North International Airport, IATA: PMR, ICAO: NZPM ) is a commercial airport in New Zealand. It is located on the outskirts of Palmerston North north of the district Milson.
Especially objectives are served at home. Furthermore, use Air mail, the School of Aviation at Massey University and Rescue Fire Services Airport. Around 480,000 passengers per year.
History
The airport was first used in 1931. The Milson Aerodrome Society erected a grass runway for private air travel. The commercial aviation began in 1936 by the Union Airways. During World War II the square was also used for military purposes.
In the 1950s the runway was paved and a terminal built. In 1992, followed by the construction of a new terminal. International flights are handled since 1996.
