Hancock (Michigan)

Hancock is a town in Houghton County.

Geography

The city is located on the Keweenaw Peninsula Peninsula. A lifting bridge leads to Houghton (Michigan). The city is rich in snow because of the Lake effect snow.

History

The first buildings were mid-19th Jrh. built. They named the place after John Hancock. For economic development, the smelting of copper ore contributed. In 1869 and in the 1940s a large part of the town was destroyed by fire each. The city rights were established in 1903. After the 2nd World War, tourism replaced the steel industry. With a Porvoo Partnerschafte cities was established.

Attractions

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places is the block at the Quincy Street, which was largely errichetet in the 1880s to the 1900s.
