Hannu Posti

Hannu Kalevi Posti ( born January 15, 1926 in Vehkalahti, † June 13, 2012 in Helsinki) was a Finnish athlete and biathlete. He took part in both a summer and at a Winter Olympics.

Hannu Posti started in his playing days for the club Seurat Vuoksenniskan Urjeilijat. He competed at the European Athletics Championships in Brussels in 1950 over 5000 meters and finished fifth, and in the 1954 in Bern in the 10,000 meters, where he finished 14th. The highlight of the athletics career was taking place between the two European Championships 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, where Posti in fourth place, with 3.2 seconds behind Alexander Anufrijew, just missed out on a medal. In 1952 and 1953 he won the Finnish title over 5000 meters, 1952, 1953, 1954 and 1955, over 10,000 meters and 1951, 1952 and 1954 in the marathon.

In the 1960s Posti was already advanced in years active as a biathlete and reached here in the still comparatively young sport even greater success than in athletics. In the Biathlon World Cup 1962 in the domestic Hämeenlinna he finished fifth in singles and was in the still unofficial relay competition with Antti Tyrväinen and Kalevi Huuskonen behind the representation from the Soviet Union in second place. Even greater was the success the following year in Seefeld in Tirol. In unofficial relay competition Finland reached the same cast as the year before, the same result. In individual Posti won the bronze medal behind Vladimir Melanin and his compatriot Antti Tyrväinen. The last highlight of the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 in Innsbruck, where, although the Finn reached only a mediocre life, but was at one penalty at the end was eighth.
