Hans Dessauer

Hans Dessauer sen. (* June 24, 1869 in Aschaffenburg, † October 23, 1926 ) was a German industrialist and politician.

Life

The parents of Hans (Johann Franz Josef ) Dessau Dessau were Philip and Maria Elisabeth Vossen from Aachen, daughter of Franz Vossen paint producers in Aachen. His great-grandfather was Alois Dessauer, who with his entire family converted from Judaism to Catholicism in 1813. A brother of Hans Dessauer was Friedrich Dessauer, his eldest son was the engineer Hans Dessauer Jr., another son of the industrialist, art collector and Professor Guido Dessauer.

Hans Dessauer first attended the primary school and the first three classes of the high school in Aschaffenburg, continued to go to school then continued in Aachen, where he made also a high school. He then studied in Freiburg and Munich and received his PhD in chemistry in 1892 with a thesis on pyrazoline and Trimethylenderivate.

As a student Dessauer was an active member of the Catholic student associations in CT, in Freiburg at the Brisgovia, in Munich at the Saxonia. Until the death Dessauer remained an avid KVER.

After graduating Dessauer worked in the paint factory of his uncle Leo Vossen in Aachen and then took over the management of the branch Paris for two years this company. In 1896 he spent a year at a pulp mill in Wisconsin (USA), from 1897 he worked in Aschaffenburg Buntpapierfabrik his father. After his death in 1900, he joined the management of that company.

Dessauer was a member of several associations and industrialists of the Economic Committee of the BVP; from 1919 he was a member of Aschaffenburg City Council for the BVP.

For his services he was awarded the title of Kommerzienrates.
