Hans Much

Hans Much ( born March 24, 1880 in the village Zechlin, † November 28, 1932 in Hamburg ) was a German physician, immunologist and writer.

Life

Hans Much studied medicine in Marburg, Kiel, Berlin and Würzburg and received his doctorate in 1903. Starting from 1905 he was a department head at the hygienic institute in Marburg and from 1908 senior physician at the Eppendorf Hospital ( now University Hospital Hamburg- Eppendorf) in Hamburg Hermann Lenhartz, whose daughter Marie he married in 1912. 1913 took over Much the management of the Institute for Tuberculosis Research in Hamburg. In the course of its activities Much undertook 1913/14, research trips to Jerusalem and Asia Minor. At the outbreak of the First World War he was interned in Egypt and worked after his release in military medical corps.

1919 Much has been Associate Professor of Hygiene at the University of Hamburg and director of the newly founded Institute serological. In 1921 he became a full professor. In addition to its medicinal activity Much intensely occupied with architecture and art history as well as with Eastern religions, especially Buddhism. He has authored numerous medical journals and Low German poems and books on North German brick gothic, folk art, Buddhism, and Islam.

Since 1898 he was a member of the Corps Teutonia Marburg.

Honors

The tomb of Hans Much is Nottensdorf, a small village in Lower Saxony. At the end of the road on the forest lies the grave and memorial erected in 1932. On the large boulder the inscription " HANS MUCH 1880 - 1932 " is to be read. Around the memorial you will find field stones with the names of his Beijing - dogs.

After Much of Hans -Much- way in Hamburg- Eppendorf is named.
