Hans N. Weiler

Hans N. Weiler (* September 13, 1934 in Krefeld, Germany ) is a German -American high school teacher.

Life

He is professor emeritus at Stanford University for Education and Political Science (1965-1993) and Emeritus Professor of Comparative Politics. Since 14 October 1993 he was the first rector of the new European University Viadrina in Frankfurt ( Oder). Gesine Schwan was his successor on 11 October 1999.

Hans N. Weiler was awarded the Commander's Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland and in 2001 the Order of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his involvement in the rebuilding after the Viadrina 1999. He is since 2002 Honorary Doctor of the University. On June 12, 2012 Weiler was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal State of Brandenburg.
