Hanumappa Sudarshan

Hanumappa Reddy Sudarshan ( Kannada ಡಾ. ಎಚ್. ಸುದರ್ಶನ್ ) ( born December 30, 1950 in Bangalore ) is an Indian doctor who fights for the rights of indigenous people and together with the which he founded Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra ( VGKK ) 1994 Right Livelihood Award received.

Medical career

Sudarshan studied at the Bangalore Medical College Medicine, where he made his degree in 1973. He received at the Indira Gandhi National Open University ( IGNOU ), the title of professor. From 1975 to 1979 he worked for the Ramakrishna Mission. This activity led him to the Himalayas, according to Belur Math in West Bengal and after Ponnampet in Karnataka. In 1980 he worked on the Biligiriranga Hills and met the people of the Soliga know.

Social projects

Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra ( VGKK )

In 1981 he founded the Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra ( VGKK ). This organization is committed to the integrated tribal development of the indigenous population. Initially, work focused on the semi-nomadic Soliga in Chamarajanagar District ( Karnataka, South India ). Later projects with other tribes came to the ( Karnataka ), are located in Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the district of Mysore. The aim is to integrate the tribes into civil society, without destroying their roots and traditions. To achieve this, the medical care of the strains was also provided by the construction of clinics and the use of mobile medical teams. Same time, the tribal medicine and especially the knowledge of remedies was promoted. It schools have been built in order to improve the education of children. All tribal members were trained in caring with their environment for the preservation of biodiversity. Karuna Trust

Sudarshan founded in 1987 the Karuna Trust. First thus should funding for the fight against leprosy are provided.
