The Harlingen Station is a train station in the Dutch province of Friesland. The station was opened on 27 October 1863 the railway line Harlingen, Leeuwarden. The line was put into operation by the Maatschappij tot Explotatie van Staatsspoorwegen. 1866, the section was opened to Groningen in 1868 and expanded on the Dutch- German border to Nieuweschans ( Reider country).
The station building
The train station of Harlingen is a Standaardstations van de Staatsspoorwegen, built in the 1860s. Of the four existing stations of the type SS derde class there are three on the line Harlingen Nieuweschans: Harlingen ( 1863), Leeuwarden (1863 ) and Winschoten (1865 ). The Harlingen station is located for the most part still in original condition.
Dokkumer local railway
In 1904 a second railway line was opened to the north of Harlingen yet. This line was built by the Noord -Friese Locaalspoorweg - Maatschappij ( NFL ). The line connects among other Dokkum and Leeuwarden together. The connection to Harlingen in 1938 was broken and torn. In Harlingen is still one other station. Harlingen Haven is a small station, is the connection to the boat to Terschelling and Vlieland.
