Harman's Cross

Harman 's Cross is a small village on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, in the south of England.

Location

Harman 's Cross is located on the main street of Lytchett Minster A351 via Wareham to Swanage. The village is about 3 kilometers southeast of Corfe Castle, situated about 5 km directly west of Swanage, and about 12 km southwest of the great cities of Poole and Bournemouth. The river rises in the north of Corfe Harman 's Cross.

The village

Harman 's Cross is usually listed as a village, but it is a village without the usual church and public house. However, there is a hidden chapel. This chapel was created by the founder and owner of the local Foley's garage. In Harman 's Cross are 190 houses and the village has about 350 inhabitants.

The village is within the civil parish Worth Matravers, but in a considerable distance from the village of Worth Matravers. The parish church, St. Nicholas of Myra, in Worth Matravers and is one of the oldest churches in Dorset. The municipality is part of the Purbeck District County. The community is in the South Dorset constituency of the House of Commons and the South West England constituency of the European Parliament.

Harman 's Cross is the location of a station on the Swanage Railway, a steam-powered locomotive historic railroad. The railway connects the tourist centers Corfe Castle and Swanage together. Harman 's Cross ' station was built in 1989. On a platform is the station building and on the other only a shelter with a garden. All stations on the Swanage Railway have lovely manicured gardens. There is a car park and ride north of Corfe Castle.

The entrepreneurial villagers have a grant from the Lottery Fund Big Lottery Fund (BIG) secured, and could thus secure with municipal funds to build a new Village Hall (village hall). In July 2010, the construction was finished and opened the new hall.

In Harman 's Cross are no shops. Foley's garage has a car repair shop and a kiosk with intriguing post office.
