Harold Danko

Harold Danko ( born June 13, 1947 in Sharon (Pennsylvania) ) is an American pianist of modern jazz.

Danko, who grew up in Ohio, played on the piano at the age. After completing his studies at Youngstown State University, he joined the Army and played in an Army band. He was then a member of Woody Herman's Thundering Herd and moved to New York City, where he worked with Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan and Lee Konitz and played in the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra. He founded his own quartet, with which he presented albums regularly, and worked with Rich Perry, Nils Winther, Michael Formanek and Jeff Hirshfield.

In addition, Danko taught at the New School, the Manhattan School of Music and the Eastman School of Music, where he has been a professor since 1998 and currently (2009) directs the Department of Jazz and Contemporary Media. He also wrote a regular column for the Keyboard Magazine and published an instructional video on the subject of Jazz Keyboard Techniques.
