Harold Dejan

Andrew Harold "Duke" Dejan ( born February 4, 1909 in New Orleans; † 5 July 2002) was an American jazz saxophonist and bandleader.

Life and work

Harold Dejan, who earned his money as a young musician in his native city of brothels and on Mississippi riverboats, was in World War II in military chapels. Then he played in the Eureka Brass Band; he led the Olympia Brass Band ( which had been formed in their original form as early as the 1880s ) since 1958 This Marching Band has also performed at Preservation Hall in New Orleans.; with the band, which, inter alia, also Kid Sheik Cola belonged, he was often on tour in Europe and he also appeared in the James Bond film Live and Let on The. He also founded the Young Olympians Brass Band, a brass band with young musicians ( whose members later formed the Soul Rebels ). After a heart attack in 1991 he could no longer play, but came on as a singer and conductor.
