Harold van der Heijden

Harold van der Heijden ( born December 18 1960 in Veghel ) is a Dutch collector of endgames and studies, editor, chess organizer and chess composer.

Study Collection

Harold van der Heijden has built up in recent decades, in cooperation with many other fellow students one of the largest collections of chess studies. Unlike previous collections in the form of card indexes its collection exists from the beginning as a data base with use of opportunities by chess programs. It was provided through the supply in the years 1990, 2000 and 2005, a large circle of professionals and lay people around the world and contributes greatly to the further popularization of chess study. The 4th edition of the database (2 October 2010) contains 76,132 trials, the data are in PGN format.

In addition to collecting van der Heijden in the Alexander Rueb Vereiniging voor Schaakeindspelstudies ( ARVES ) very active, was the last editor of ebur and this position has now taken in EC.

Chess composition

2001 Harold van der Heijden for International Referees appointed for chess composition. As a tournament director for studies, he has lots of attention lately in the creation of FIDE Album thanks to consistent use of electronic means for speedy processing and has been repeatedly called studies for this task in the department.

After an initial three studies were published by him in 1981, van der Heijden composed since the 1990s endgame studies, and can refer to a number of successes. The following study is a throwback to a very well-known study of Szaja Kozlowski. In the latter, the king is on f3, both together form a twin. The solution there is 1.Tg7 ! Kxh8 2.Th7 Kg8 3.g7! with profit ( 1.Le5? fxg6 ). In the study by Harold van der Heijden this fails to third ... Re8 .

Private

Harold van der Heijden 's married. The marriage produced two sons were born. He received his doctorate at the University of Utrecht in 2009 and works as a research analyst in veterinary medicine.
