Harry W. Kessler

Harry W. Kessler ( born August 15, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio; † January 2, 2007 in Perrysburg, Ohio ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party.

Biography

Kessler began his political career when, as a candidate of the Democratic Party for the first time unsuccessful candidate in 1961 for a seat on the city council of his hometown of Toledo. His candidacy for a seat in the House of Representatives from Ohio in 1962 as unsuccessful as a renewed candidacy for the City Council of Toledo in 1963. 1965 he was finally for the first time elected a member of the City Council and confirmed in the next election in 1967. In 1969 he was elected vice-mayor of his native town.

After both the former mayor William J. Ensign and the Municipal Administrative Director ( City Manager) William Gross had resigned because of the stagnant economy and standing on shaky finances, he sat down with a small majority of votes in the Executive Committee of the Democratic 13:11 party against its internal counter party candidate Carol Pietrykowski and therefore as a candidate of his party for mayor elections. In the following the first round he was defeated as underdogs to the candidate of the Republican Party, Howard Cook, with 7,000 votes.
