Lucas County (Ohio)

Lucas County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Toledo.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Ohio, bounded on the north by Michigan, on the northeast by Lake Erie, the southernmost of the five Great Lakes and has an area of ​​1543 square kilometers, of which 662 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Monroe County ( Michigan), Ottawa County, Wood County, Henry County, Fulton County and Lenawee County ( Michigan).

History

Lucas County was formed on June 20, 1835 from parts of Henry, Sandusky and Wood County. It was named for Robert Lucas, the twelfth Governor of Ohio, and Major-General in the British -American War of 1812-1814.
