Fayette County (Ohio)

Fayette County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Washington Court House.

Geography

The County southwest of the geographic center of Ohio and has an area of 1054 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Madison County, Pickaway County, Ross County, Highland County, Clinton County and Greene County.

History

Fayette County was formed on March 1, 1810 from parts of Highland County and Ross County. It was named after Marie -Joseph Motier, Marquis de La Fayette, a French general and politician who took part on the side of the colonists in the American Revolutionary War and played an important role in the French Revolution.
