Fayette County (Ohio)
The County southwest of the geographic center of Ohio and has an area of 1054 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Madison County, Pickaway County, Ross County, Highland County, Clinton County and Greene County.
Fayette County was formed on March 1, 1810 from parts of Highland County and Ross County. It was named after Marie -Joseph Motier, Marquis de La Fayette, a French general and politician who took part on the side of the colonists in the American Revolutionary War and played an important role in the French Revolution.
According to the census in 2000, lived in Fayette County 28 433 people in 11,054 households and 7,837 families. The population density was 27 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 95.60 percent White, 2.07 percent African American, 0.15 percent Native American, 0.46 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.55 percent from other races groups; 1.16 per cent were descended from two or more races. 1.24 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 11,054 households out of which 32.4 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 54.8 percent were married couples living together, 11.5 percent were single mothers, 29.1 percent were non-families, 24.5 percent of all households and 11.2 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.96.
Based on the county the population was spread from 25.4 percent population under 18 years, 8.0 percent between 18 and 24 years, 28.3 percent between 25 and 44 years, 24.0 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.4 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 36,735, and the median income for a family was $ 43,692. Males had a median income of $ 31,870, women $ 22,662. The per capita income was $ 18,063. 7.7 percent of families and 10.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 12.3 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 11.3 percent of those 65 years.
