Summit County (Ohio)
Summit County is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Akron.
Geography
The County is located in northeastern Ohio, is in the north about 35 km from Lake Erie, the southernmost of the five Great Lakes, away and has an area of 1088 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cuyahoga County, Portage County, Stark County, Wayne County and Medina County.
History
Summit County was formed on March 3, 1840 parts of the Medina, Portage and Stark County. It was named after the highest point of the Ohio - Erie Canal.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Summit County 542 899 people in 217 788 households and 144 611 families. The population density was 508 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 83.50 percent White, 13.19 percent Black or African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 1.41 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.29 percent from other races groups; 1.39 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.88 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 217 788 households out of which 30.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 50.1 percent were married couples living together, 12.6 percent were single mothers, 33.6 percent were non-families, 28.0 percent of all households and 10.3 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.02.
Based on the county the population was spread from 25.0 percent population under 18 years, 8.2 percent between 18 and 24 years, 29.6 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.1 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.3 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 42,304, and the median income for a family was $ 52,200. Males have a median income of $ 40,117, women $ 26,831. The per capita income was $ 22,842. 7.5 percent of families and 9.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 14.0 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 6.8 percent of those 65 years.
