Pike County (Ohio)
Pike County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Waverly.
Geography
The County is located in southern Ohio, each situated about 60 km away from the border with West Virginia and Kentucky and has an area of 1150 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Ross County, Jackson County, Scioto County, Adams County and Highland County.
History
Pike County was formed on January 4, 1815 from parts of Adams, Ross and Scioto County. It was named for Zebulon Pike, an American officer, explorer and explorer of the North American continent.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Pike County 27 695 people in 10,444 households and 7,665 families. The population density was 24 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 96.72 percent White, 0.89 percent African American, 0.74 percent Native American, 0.18 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.07 percent from other races groups; 1.36 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.56 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 10,444 households out of which 35.5 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.8 percent were married couples living together, 11.9 percent were single mothers, 26.6 percent were non-families, 22.8 percent of all households and 10.4 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.04.
Based on the county the population was spread from 27.2 percent population under 18 years, 8.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 28.9 percent between 25 and 44 years, 21.5 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.6 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.5 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 31,649, and the median income for a family was $ 35,934. Males have a median income of $ 32,379, women $ 20,761. The per capita income was $ 16,093. 15.1 percent of families and 18.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 23.2 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 13.6 percent of those 65 years.
