Defiance County, Ohio

Defiance County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Defiance.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme northwest of Ohio, on the west by Indiana and has an area of ​​1073 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Williams County, Henry County, Putnam County, Paulding County, Allen County ( Indiana) and De Kalb County (Indiana).

History

Defiance County was formed on March 4, 1845 from parts of Henry, Paulding and Williams County. It was named after Fort Defiance, which had been built in the area, at the confluence of the Auglaize River and the Maumee River.

According to the census of 2000, there were 39,500 people in Defiance County.
