Defiance County, Ohio
Defiance County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Defiance.
Geography
The County is located almost in the extreme northwest of Ohio, on the west by Indiana and has an area of 1073 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Williams County, Henry County, Putnam County, Paulding County, Allen County ( Indiana) and De Kalb County (Indiana).
History
Defiance County was formed on March 4, 1845 from parts of Henry, Paulding and Williams County. It was named after Fort Defiance, which had been built in the area, at the confluence of the Auglaize River and the Maumee River.

According to the census of 2000, there were 39,500 people in Defiance County. Of these, 605 people were living in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 15,138 households and 11,020 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 92.59 percent White, 1.75 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 0.36 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 3.59 percent from other races groups; 1.43 percent were descended from two or more races. 7.23 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 15,138 households out of which 34.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.9 percent were married couples living together, 9.6 percent were single mothers, 27.2 percent were non-families, 23.0 percent of all households and 9.5 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.02.
Based on the county the population was spread from 26.5 percent population under 18 years, 9.2 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.4 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 years and 12.9 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 44,938, and the median income for a family was $ 50,876. Males had a median income of $ 37,936, women $ 23,530. The per capita income was $ 19,667. 4.5 percent of families and 5.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 6.4 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years old and 5.3 percent are 65 years old.
