Putnam County (Ohio)

Putnam County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ottawa.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Ohio, is located in the west about 50 km from the border with Indiana and has an area of 1254 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Henry County, Hancock County, Allen County, Van Wert County, Paulding County, Defiance County and Wood County.

History

Putnam County was formed on February 12, 1820 from parts of Shelby County. It was named after Israel Putnam, a general in the American Revolutionary War, among other things, fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill (1775 ).
