Mahoning County, Ohio

Mahoning County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The seat of the county seat is in Youngstown.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Ohio, adjacent to Pennsylvania and has an area of 1,097 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the County Trumbull County, Mercer County (Pennsylvania), Lawrence County (Pennsylvania), Columbiana County, Stark County and Portage County.

History

Mahoning County was formed on February 16, 1846 from parts of Columbiana County and Trumbull County. It was named after an Indian term which means as much as the case of the salt blocks ( Salt Licks ).
