Coshocton County, Ohio

Coshocton County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Coshocton.

Geography

The County is located just east of the geographic center of Ohio and has an area of 1470 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Holmes County, Tuscarawas County, Guernsey County, Muskingum County, Licking County and Knox County.

History

Coshocton County was formed on January 31, 1810 from parts of Muskingum County Tuscarawas County and the. It was named after a term of the Delaware Indians, which means as much as union of the water.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Coshocton County 36,655 people in 14,356 households and 10,164 families. The population density was 25 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.35 percent White, 1.09 percent African American, 0.17 percent Native Americans, 0.32 percent Asian American, 0.03 percent Pacific Islander, and 0.20 percent from other races; 0.84 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.59 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

Of the 14,356 households out of which 32.6 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.8 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers, 29.2 percent were non-families, 25.4 percent of all households and 11.9 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.01.

Based on the county the population was spread out 26.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 7.8 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.4 percent between 25 and 44 years, 24.0 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.7 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.7 men statistically.

The median income for a household was $ 34,701, and the median income for a family was $ 41,676. Males had a median income of $ 31,095, women $ 21,276. The per capita income was $ 16,364. 7.0 percent of families and 9.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 10.4 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 9.1 percent of those 65 years.
