Clermont County, Ohio

Clermont County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Batavia.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme southwest of Ohio, on the south by Kentucky and has an area of 1185 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Warren County, Clinton County, Brown County, Bracken County (Kentucky), Pendleton County (Kentucky), Campbell County ( Kentucky) and Hamilton County.

History

Clermont County was formed on December 6, 1800 from parts of Hamilton County. It was named after the French city of Clermont- Ferrand, Clermont was called until only the middle of the 18th century.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Clermont County 177 977 people in 66 013 households and 49 047 families. The population density was 152 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.13 percent White, 0.91 percent African American, 0.19 percent Native American, 0.63 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.26 percent from other races groups; 0.86 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.87 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 66 013 households out of which 38.1 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.4 percent were married couples living together, 10.0 percent were single mothers, 25.7 percent were non-families, 21.0 percent of all households and 7.0 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.11.

Based on the county the population was spread from 27.9 percent population under 18 years, 8.4 percent between 18 and 24 years, 31.7 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 9.4 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.6 men statistically.

The median income for a household was $ 49,386, and the median income for a family was $ 57,032. Males have a median income of $ 40,739, women $ 27,613. The per capita income was $ 22,370. 5.3 percent of families and 7.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 8.7 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years old and 7.9 percent are 65 years old.
