Carroll County (Ohio)

Carroll County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Carrollton.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme east of Ohio, each about 40 km from the border with Pennsylvania, and West Virginia is removed and has an area of 1033 square kilometers, of which eleven square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Columbiana County, Jefferson County, Harrison County, Tuscarawas County and Stark County.

History

Carroll County was formed on December 25, 1832 from portions of Columbiana, Harrison, Jefferson, Stark and Tuscarawas County. It was named after Charles Carroll, the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence of 1776.

According to the census of 2000, there were 28 836 people in Carroll County. Of these, 366 people were living in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 11,126 households and 8,155 families. The population density was 28 people per square kilometer.
