Washington County (Ohio)

The Washington County is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. In the census in 2010, the County had 61 778 inhabitants and a population density of 37.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Marietta.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern Ohio at the mouth of the Muskingum River in the Ohio River, the Washington County is bordered to the south and southwest of West Virginia, from which it is separated by the Ohio. It has an area of 1,658 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. At the Washington County borders the following counties:

History

The Washington County was formed from the original County as free signified territory on 27 July 1788. It was named (1789-1797) to George Washington (1732-1799), leader of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War and the first President of the United States.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Washington County 61 778 people in 25 166 households. The population density was 37.8 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 96.5 percent white, 1.1 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 0.6 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.5 percent were descended from two or more races.
