Champaign County (Ohio)

Champaign County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Urbana.

Geography

The County is located in west-central Ohio and has an area of ​​1113 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Logan County, Union County, Madison County, Clark County, Miami County and Shelby County.

History

Champaign County was formed on February 20, 1805 from parts of Franklin County and Greene County. It was named after the French words meaning "plain" for flat land.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Champaign County 38,890 people in 14,952 households and 10,870 families. The population density was 35 people per square kilometer.
