Perry County (Ohio)
Perry County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is in New Lexington.
The County is located in the central south-east of Ohio and has an area of 1069 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Licking County, Muskingum County, Morgan County, Athens County, Hocking County and Fairfield County.
Perry County was formed on December 26, 1817 from parts of Fairfield, Muskingum and Washington County. It was named after Oliver Hazard Perry, a naval officer in the British -American War of 1812-1814.
According to the census in 2000, lived in Perry County 34,078 people in 12,500 households and 9,350 families. The population density was 32 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.54 percent White, 0.22 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.10 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.09 percent from other races groups; 0.76 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.45 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,500 households out of which 36.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.1 percent were married couples living together, 9.8 percent were single mothers, 25.2 percent were non-families, 21.4 percent of all households and 9.9 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.13.
Based on the county the population was spread from 28.1 percent population under 18 years, 8.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 29.1 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.3 percent between 45 and 64 years and 12.0 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.4 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 34,383, and the median income for a family was $ 40,294. Males have a median income of $ 31,664, women $ 21,147. The per capita income was $ 15,674. 9.4 percent of families and 11.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 15.2 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 12.7 percent of those 65 years.
