Lorain County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Elyria.

Geography

The County is located in northern Ohio, adjacent to Lake Erie, the southernmost of the five Great Lakes and has an area of ​​2391 square kilometers, of which 1115 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cuyahoga County, Medina County, Ashland County, Huron County and Erie County.

History

Lorain County was formed on December 26, 1822 from parts of Cuyahoga, Huron and Medina County. It was named after the French region of Lorraine (French: Lorraine ).
