Allen County (Ohio)

Allen County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is the city of Lima, which was named after the capital of Peru.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Ohio, is located in the west about 40 km from the border with Indiana and has an area of 1054 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Putnam County, Hancock County, Hardin County, Auglaize County and Van Wert County.

History

Allen County was formed on 1 April 1820 parts of Shelby County. It was named after Ethan Allen, leader of the Green Mountain Boys, a paramilitary infantry unit in the Revolutionary War or after John Allen, a Colonel in the British -American War of 1812-1814.
