Clinton County (Ohio)

Clinton County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wilmington.

Geography

The County is located in the central southwestern Ohio, each about 70 km away from the borders of Kentucky and Indiana and has an area of 1068 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Greene County, Fayette County, Highland County, Brown County, Clermont County, and Warren County.

History

Clinton County was formed on February 19, 1810 from parts of Highland County and Warren County. It was named for George Clinton, a soldier, politician, Governor of New York and Vice President of the United States

According to the census in 2000 lived in Clinton County 40 543 people in 15,416 households and 11,068 families. The population density was 38 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 95.99 percent White, 2.19 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 0.38 percent Asian, and 0.20 percent from other races; 0.97 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.66 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 15,416 households out of which 34.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.4 percent were married couples living together, 10.1 percent were single mothers, 28.2 percent were non-families, 23.7 percent of all households and 9.9 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.03.

Based on the county the population was spread from 26.4 percent population under 18 years, 10.2 percent between 18 and 24 years, 29.1 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.1 percent between 45 and 64 years and 12.2 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.7 men statistically.

The median income for a household was $ 40,467, and the median income for a family was $ 48,158. Males had a median income of $ 34,448, women $ 23,846. The per capita income was $ 18,462. 6.4 percent of families and 8.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 9.9 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 11.6 percent of those 65 years.
