Williams County (Ohio)

Williams County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bryan.

Geography

The County is located in the northwest corner of Ohio, bounded on the north by Michigan, on the west by Indiana and has an area of 1096 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hillsdale County ( Michigan), Fulton County, Henry County, Defiance County, De Kalb County (Indiana) and Steuben County ( Indiana).

History

Williams County was formed on February 12, 1820 from parts of Darke County. It was named after David Williams, an officer of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War.

According to the census of 2000, there were in the Williams County 39 188 people in 15,105 households and 10,664 families. The population density was 36 people per square kilometer.
