Williams County (Ohio)
Williams County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bryan.
Geography
The County is located in the northwest corner of Ohio, bounded on the north by Michigan, on the west by Indiana and has an area of 1096 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hillsdale County ( Michigan), Fulton County, Henry County, Defiance County, De Kalb County (Indiana) and Steuben County ( Indiana).
History
Williams County was formed on February 12, 1820 from parts of Darke County. It was named after David Williams, an officer of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War.

According to the census of 2000, there were in the Williams County 39 188 people in 15,105 households and 10,664 families. The population density was 36 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 96.51 percent White, 0.72 percent African American, 0.23 percent Native American, 0.52 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.19 percent from other races groups; 0.83 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.68 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 15,105 households out of which 33.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.5 percent were married couples living together, 9.0 percent were single mothers, 29.4 percent were non-families, 24.9 percent of all households and 10.5 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.00.
Based on the county the population was spread out 26.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 8.3 percent between 18 and 24 years, 28.7 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.9 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.9 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.4 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 40,735, and the median income for a family was $ 47,398. Males have a median income of $ 33,476, women $ 22,136. The per capita income was $ 18,441. 3.9 percent of families and 6.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 6.2 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 6.9 percent of those 65 years.
