Belmont County, Ohio

The Belmont County is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. In the census in 2010, the County had 70,400 inhabitants and a population density of 50.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) St. Clairsville.

Geography

The County is located in eastern Ohio and is separated by the Ohio River from West Virginia. It has an area of 1,402 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers of water surface. At the Belmont County borders the following counties:

History

The Belmont County was formed on September 7, 1801 from parts of Jefferson County and Washington County. It was named after the French expression for Beautiful Mountain.
