Logan County (Ohio)

Logan County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bellefontaine.

Geography

The County is located in west-central Ohio and has an area of 1209 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hardin County, Union County, Champaign County, Shelby County and Auglaize County.

History

Logan County was formed on December 30, 1817 from parts of Champaign County. It was named the Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War by Benjamin Logan, a brigadier general.

1900-1990 2000

According to the census of 2000, there were 46.005 people in Logan County. Of these, 585 people were living in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 17.956 households and 12,730 families. The population density was 39 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 96.15 percent White, 1.71 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native Americans, 0.40 percent Asian American, 0.03 percent Pacific Islander, and 0.27 percent from other races; 1.24 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.72 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

Of the 17 956 households out of which 33.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.0 percent were married couples living together, 9.5 percent were single mothers, 29.1 percent were non-families, 24.8 percent of all households and 10.3 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.01.

Based on the county the population was spread from 26.7 percent population under 18 years, 8.2 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.9 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.3 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.9 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.6 males.

The median income for a household was $ 41,479, and the median income for a family was $ 47,516. Males have a median income of $ 37,134, women $ 24,739. The per capita income was $ 18,984. 7.1 percent of families and 9.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 11.8 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 8.5 percent of those 65 years.
