Harz Run

The resin crossing is a running and walking event, organized in 1911 eV since the 1970s by the Ski Club of Wernigerode and takes place on the last Saturday in April. The main line is an ultra-marathon, in which traverses a distance of 51 km of the resin between Wernigerode and Nordhausen in north-south direction. There is also a 25 - km route from Wernigerode to Benneckenstein and a 28- km stretch of Benneckenstein to Nordhausen.

From the start on the outskirts of Wernigerode, it is first up to the Hilmer mountain ( 507 m) and then to the dam Zillierbach. After 11.5 km, the first aid station is reached at the new hut. On the Long forks at km 20 of the road. While the 25 - km runners turn right to Benneckenstein, the ultra marathoners run further south. Shortly after Trautenstein push the started in Benneckenstein 28- km runners to them. About Sophienhof it goes Netzkater. Now comes the second big climb to the Poppberg ( 600.6 m), the summit of which is reached at 39 km. About Neustadt / Harz and Rüdigsdorf you go to the target at the Albert Kuntz Stadium in Nordhausen.

The track is quite challenging because of the natural history on small roads and more than 1200 to be dealt with altitude.

Initiator of the run was the 1993 late Herbert Pohl from Wernigerode. In the GDR, the implementation of the run was temporarily prohibited by order of the authorities. In 2004, jointly with the one 25 resin crossing simultaneously the 4th German Championship in the landscape round of the German Ultra Marathon Association ( DUV) instead.
